Bacteria hotspot! Discard sponges, scourers and dish brushes when they get old and yucky.
Keep pets off the bench! Pets can spread disease and can get a foodborne illness themselves. Protect yourself and your pets by keeping them out of the kitchen.
Stop! Look at the date. This is no longer safe to drink. Use By dates are about food safety, Best Before dates are about food quality. Don't forget to put the milk back in the fridge straight away.
Keep eggs in the carton and store in the fridge. It protects the shell from absorbing food odours and keeps the Best Before date visible.
Pets spread germs. Keep pets and their feeding bowls out of the kitchen and eating areas.
Bacteria hotspot! Keep tea towels clean and dry and wash them regularly. Use single-use paper towels to clean up spills.
Avoid cross contamination! Use separate chopping boards for raw meat and vegetables.
NEVER wash raw meat! It will increase your risk of food poisoning as it spreads bacteria to other foods, utensils and benchtops.
Reduce the risk of pests. Keep bins clean and empty them often - and don't forget to wash your hands afterwards!
